Yesterday the AusAID funded TVET Sector Strengthening Program opened the new Malampa TVET Centre in Norsup, Malakula. The opening was attended by members of the Provincial and National Government, AusAID and local business and community leaders.

The President of the Malampa Provincial government Mr Aisen Robsen officially opened the centre commenting that “I am sure all Malampa people will benefit fully from the TVET Centre services”.

The TVET Sector Strengthening Program with support from the Provincial Government facilitates quality training aimed at creating income generating opportunities for rural communities. Currently the Program operates in two Provincial locations, Malampa and Sanma, providing a range of services to assist in the provision of skills, training and advice to support income generation, employment and small business development.

The Sanma Secretary General Mr Joel Path commented that “It is like a dream come true with the services delivery and the training initiatives.” Both the Malampa and Sanma Centers have benefited from an upgrade of facilities to complement the new services provided to local communities.

In the 9 months since inception the TVET Centre in Malampa has provided local communities in Craig Cove, Willit, Fanjever, Port Vato and Ranon with training opportunities in business management and business awareness. Training in Ambrym, Paama and Malakula have been organized for 2010 providing rural communities with skills in vanilla processing, catering, fabric printing, housekeeping, high value crops-planting and rural fishing.
